Offer

Our association offers artists and glassmakers the opportunity for residencies and provides specialized services in the field of glass processing. Below, you will find our current offer.

Residencies

Residencies for Glassmakers and Artists

Length
Flexible by Agreement.
Price
20,000 CZK (€800) per month. In the case of a shorter residency, the price will be proportionally reduced.
Materials
The artist covers the cost of materials, but we can facilitate the purchase of suitable materials based on the intended goal.
Financing
We are happy to help explore external funding opportunities. Depending on your specifics (specific university, country of origin), various entities can be approached for support.
Description
The artist has access to a fully equipped space for the production of kiln-cast glass sculptures, slumped glass, grinding, polishing, and sandblasting of glass, as well as for the wet collodion photographic process and traditional photographic processes (fully equipped darkroom and photo studio). Our kilns can also be used for firing ceramics and porcelain.

During the residency, the artist will have the opportunity for professional consultation on any project that can be realized with the available equipment, except for porcelain.

The resident will have the opportunity to learn anything they are interested in and that we can teach.
Notes
If external funding is involved, a public presentation of the final work may be required. In such a case, the finished sculpture may either be temporarily left in the workshop or sent to the exhibition at the artist’s own expense.

Residency with a Glass Casting Technique Course

Length
At least one month due to the drying time of materials for molds. However, the ideal residency length is at least six weeks to allow time for glass finishing after firing, which can be time-consuming depending on the size of the object and the complexity of its shape.
Price
30,000 CZK (€1400). In case of an extension, each additional week costs 8,700 CZK (€350).
Materials
The price includes the provision of all necessary materials (incl. glass).
Financing
We are happy to help explore external funding opportunities. Depending on your specifics (specific university, country of origin), various entities can be approached for support.
Description
This program allows artists to immerse themselves in the process of creating kiln-cast glass sculptures from start to finish:
  • Model creation
  • Mold making and kiln firing
  • Finishing the glass piece using grinding tools

Timeline:
  • In the first week, it is necessary to create a model and make the mold.
  • While the mold dries (1–2 weeks depending on thickness), it is possible to learn various glass processing techniques and gain knowledge of glass technology. Artists can also explore the use of recycled glass and, if interested, conduct small test experiments.
  • Next comes kiln loading and firing, which takes approximately one week. The artist will be introduced to the principles of glass melting and the basic parameters for calculating the melting and cooling curves.
  • For the remainder of the residency, the artist will refine the fired glass sculpture.

At the end of the residency, the artist will take home a finished artwork, and we can also photograph it in our studio.
Notes
If external funding is involved, a public presentation of the final work may be required. In such a case, the finished sculpture may either be temporarily left in the workshop or sent to the exhibition at the artist’s own expense.

Services

Firing of a finished mold

Specifications
The author brings a finished mold ready for firing along with their own glass. We can provide glass at the purchase price if needed.
Price
6,500 CZK (€260) for the firing.

Mold preparation

Specification
The author brings their model from which they want to create a mold.

This includes a consultation, and it may happen that mold preparation is not possible or suitable for certain models. The service does not include the removal of the model from the mold (e.g. clay). Before firing, the mold must be thoroughly cleaned.

It is possible that, for various reasons, the mold may not withstand the firing process, for example, due to an unconventional shape. In such a case, we will discuss the creation of a new mold individually under more favorable financial conditions.
Price
1,500 CZK (€60) for one mold.

Glass cutting

Specification
The scope of the required glass cutting or polishing will be agreed upon in advance, and billing will be based on the report provided by the glass cutter.
Price
500 CZK (€20) for one hour of work.

Independent use of glass cutting equipment under supervision

Specification
You can cut or polish the glass yourself, and we will be happy to assist you, provide advice, and explain how to operate the machines.
Price
500 CZK (€20) for one day of work.

Comprehensive projects

Specification
We are also capable of executing comprehensive projects utilizing fused and kiln-cast glass techniques, as well as glass cutting.
Price
By agreement.
